The questionnaire results are in: over 200 of you tell the XJZ Survey Remover what you want!

05/08/2010

Introduction:

I have put together the results to allow you to see what people actually think about the remover, including about the direction the latest development, the Firefox addon, and their views on where the project should go. I've included graphs and figures to allow you to make up your own mind regarding what people actually want. I also want to thank everyone who participated!

Common Misconceptions:

Reading people's comments expressed in the questionnaire I think that it's important to clear up some common misconceptions that were mentioned time and time again:
  • There is only one person developing and running the XJZ Survey Remover - there is not a team of developers!
  • I have very limited programming skills - this Firefox extension is the first addon I've ever made. Therefore I am not able to quickly produce Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer addons just yet. (Note: A Chrome addon has been made since this article was written)
  • A bypass for Sharecash cannot be made as discussed here
  • I am not considering charging people to use the bookmarklet - it would go against the objectives of the remover as read on the home page. Instead a donation will be suggested to use the addon (discussed later)

Quick Summary:

  1. People hate survey-to-view pages and there is a lot of support for the XJZ Survey Remover
  2. There is a large amount of demand for a Firefox extension/addon
  3. There will be a permission key system to use the upcoming addon
  4. To get a key, a suggested donation of £2.99 will be asked for. However, users can donate whatever reasonable amount that they wish to still get a key

Unsurprisingly the results to this question shows that most people really, really hate "survey-to-view" pages! Not surprising considering the type of people who would have filled in the survey!
Graphical representation of the data

Again another unsurprising result shows that the majority of the people who completed the questionnaire find the XJZ Survey Remover bookmarklet useful.
Graphical representation of the data
On average, how often do you use the XJZ survey remover bookmarklet?
I was happy to see that a lot of people are relying on the XJZ Survey Remover regularly showing that the remover has value to people.
Graphical representation of the data
What internet browser do you use?
These results were very useful to me. Combining these with traffic data, we can see that most people who use the survey remover are using Mozilla Firefox followed by Google Chrome. This reinforces the fact that a Firefox addon should be developed before any other. However, as a big minority of people are using Google's Chrome browser, the idea of a Chrome addon may be persuaded in the future. It is unlikely that a Safari nor Internet Explorer addon will be developed in the near future unless demand increases.
Most XJZ Survey Remover users have Mozilla Firefox as their main browser
Are you interested in a Firefox extension which would automatically remove surveys?
Again, these results support the development of a Firefox extension, showing that there will be demand for the product when it is released.
