Thumbs up for one of our admins, Norman, who has been doing an amazing job at replying back to people's comments lately!

Hopefully I (Colin) will get some time to work on the project soon - I'm going to write some security related blog posts that (hopefully!) people will find useful/interesting.

A lot of people seem to be asking for a password to a "zip" file they have downloaded as the remover. This is completely FAKE and you can only get the XJZ Survey remover from http://survey-remover.com - The remover comes in 2 forms, a browser addon, and a bookmarklet. The remover is never zipped nor will it ever run as an EXE on your desktop

I've come across a lot of mgjmp links recently, these are surveys that lock downloads and passwords with surveys. If you every come across a mgjmp survey, you can just bypass it by pasting this javascript into your browser: javascript:showHidden()

The code is case sensitive, and will only work for mgjmp surveys, and no other

This is a warning: a number of fake websites have been created recently that claim to distribute "updated" versions of the XJZ Survey Remover that are declared to work on download sites such as Sharecash. Some of these sites are even mimick
ing the real remover by stealing its graphics.

Their claims are completely fictions and these programs are fake and very likely highly dangerous! To make it even worse (and hugely ironic) they are trying to scam you of your time and money by using surveys to lock their sham programs!

You can only get the survey remover from: http://survey-remover.com/. You can also be sure that it’s completely safe and not out to abuse you.

Many thanks to Paco who got in touch to report a website with a content covering survey that wasn't supported. As a result, the remover is able to take out surveys from yet another survey provider!

If you find a website with content covering surveys (be sure you know what this means!) that is not supported by the remover, please get in touch and it'll get supported!

I'm happy to say that after updating the Chrome addon (fixed some bugs induced by updates to Chrome) and putting it onto the Chrome Web Store, it can once again be easily installed from the website.

If you're interested in the addons, you can download them and read more here: http://survey-remover.com/addon/

Unfortunately, the site's databases are currently down, which will affect anyone who uses the addon :(

The problem has occurred because one of the project's hosting providers MySQL servers has gone down. They are currently fixing it though so this issue shouldn't last too long. I will update when everything's working again!

I'm happy to report that, after a day of stress, the XJZ Survey Remove is now fully online again!

Appologies again for the downtime. It was cause by the fact that 5quidhosting decided it would no longer host the project. The site is now with GoDaddy for a month before it will be moved to a more long term server (which I am yet to find)!

The XJZ Survey Remover is back online! :)

I've got most of the remover's services working again, following issues with the server. Not everything is completely up and running as the site is currently on a temporary server.

I'm really sorry for the downtime! If you find any issues that immediately need solving, please get in touch.

Removal Engine Rewritten: 40% Size Reduction

02/01/11
Over the last couple of days, the XJZ Survey Remover engine (the code that does the hard work and removes the surveys) has been completely re-written! It is currently in beta available from this link:
Test the new removal engine

Image showing the size reduction of the new scripts

This image shows the reduction in size from v1.0 of the remover to the latest beta version - v2.1. The diagram shows that the size of the remover has been reduced by 40%, meaning much quicker loading times.

Further speed increases (not seen in this graph) are obtained with script merging and increased efficiency (and stability) in the remover code.

Firefox Addon Updated

29/11/10
The XJZ Survey Remover Firefox addon was updated earlier today, from v1.20 to v1.25.
Some minor changes were implemented such as the addition of transparency in images so that the addon fits in better with themes. Some spelling mistakes were also corrected. On top of this, behind the scenes changes were done to improve the addon update system.

Some more minor changes to the Firefox addon are expected within the coming month. An update to the chrome addon will also occur soon to fix similar issues as was found in the Firefox addon.

XJZ Survey Remover - Chrome Extension to be Released Soon

03/10/10
Since its launch, the XJZ Survey Remover Firefox Addon has helped many people in the fight against time, money and privacy stealing surveys. Now, by popular request, a Chrome version of the extension has been built and is currently been beta tested by a selection of volunteers.

It has all the same features as the Firefox addon, including automatic CPAlead.com survey removal, right click and toolbar button removal, auto updating and customizable settings.

If you are already using the Firefox addon you will be able to use the Chrome addon when it comes out with your permission key. For any one else not yet used the XJZ Survey Remover addon, give it a try: it makes life so much easier! The bookmarklet is good but the browser addon is even better...

Beta Launch of the User Removal Kit

28/09/10
It is not very often that you find a survey that isn't removed by the XJZ Survey Remover; however it can happen. Although XJZ supports the removal of surveys provided by all major providers, there is still the possibility of you coming across surveys from someone not yet known about (if this happens, leave a report on the site and they will be supported usually within a few days as so many people have found out in the past!)

Previously, the task of removing the unknown survey was given to the so called "psycoAgent", which blindly attempted to free up the page for you. Despite been with us since the start of the project, it is time to say goodbye to the psycoAgent. Instead we say hello to the User Removal Kit!

With this new kit, all you have to do to remove unsupported surveys, without paying nor surrendering your privacy, is to point and click at them to remove. It's as simple as that! If you ever need to use the User Removal Kit, I hope you find it helpful!

On another note: thanks to a report from Mike, PointClickTrack.com surveys were added to the supported list earlier this week.

Firefox Addon Released!

22/08/10
After weeks of beta testing and months of development, the XJZ Survey remover, Firefox addon has been released to the public!

Along with other things, the addon is able to automatically remove CPAlead surveys and is a great tool in protecting your privacy, money and time when faced against survey-to-view or pay-to-view premium content pages.

For more information about this Firefox addon, click on the link below:

Welcome Along Opera!

21/08/10
I finally decided to get Opera today so I could write a patch enabling the bookmarklet to work in this browser. Turns out that Opera has issues with the javascript function: "delete".
delete xxx;
If xxx is a native window method (such as alert, write, etc) and has been tampered with, all other browsers would revert xxx back to its native function when it is "deleted". Opera on the other hand takes the delete keyword a bit literally and just kills xxx completely. I wrote a fix though so Opera can now join the XJZ Survey Remover party!

No Internet Explorer, for the last time, you can't come in: nobody likes you...

Removal Scripts - Updated

18/08/10
There were some minor updates to the removal scripts done today. Hopefully, they'll make the XJZ Survey Remover even faster at getting rid of the surveys for you guys! Furthermore the updates allow use of the upcoming Firefox Addon

There was also some work done at reducing the time which elapses between the survey being removed and the notification (donation request, logo, etc) being displayed. It has been noticed that this was taking a considerable amount of time, which I was told was annoying some of you as it appeared seemingly randomly once you though it wasn't coming. (Note: the donation request is not shown if you donate!)

Leadbolt Update - Patched

14/08/10
I just received a couple of reports of problems with Leadbolt survey. It appears that they've changed their system a bit to make it harder for people to bypass the surveys. The update was no match for the XJZ Survey Remover though!

Within minutes of hearing about the problem I released an update, allowing once again for your time, privacy and money to be preserved! Happy internet surfing everyone!

Your Opinions Heard!

09/08/10
The results to the recent questionnaire are now out!

They show that support for the XJZ Survey Remover is at an all time high and that many people are interested in the new development: the Firefox Addon.

Although work on this project is still in progress, the results from the questionnaire are influencing both its design and distribution. Amongst other things, it has been announced today that a permission key system will be used to control the use of the addon with either a donation or free request submission required in order to obtain a key to use the addon.

To take a look at the questionnaire's results click here

Development Section on the Site Launched!

21/07/10
I have added a new section to the site: development.
This section will give full details of the current projects related to the XJZ Survey Remover.

Your opinions are required to influence the development of the upcoming survey remover addon.
If you want to help out, give your view using the questionnaire - it is easy to fill in and will only take you a few minutes!

CPAlead Stopped Trying to Protect Against the Remover - Checkmate?

15/07/10
CPAlead seems to have given up trying to fight the XJZ Survey Remover: is this "checkmate" I ask?
There is probably still scope for some further useless CPAlead "attacks" but for the time being, version 1.1 of the remover seems to work 100% of the time for Firefox, Chrome and Safari! (The less said about IE the better - stupid browser...)

On another story, I added leadbolt.net to the ever expanding list of blocked survey providers!
Also, expect soon the release of version 1.15 of the XJZ Survey Remover shortly: although not a required update, it will remove surveys quicker than the current version (1.1). After all: time is money!

Update:
Version 1.15 of the XJZ Survey Remover is out now!

Battle With CPAlead Restarts

11/07/10
After months of calm, CPAlead have decided to start fighting back again: I was premature to think that company had nothing left in them!

It has picked up again with javascript timeouts as CPAlead try in vein to win the battle for your computer screen. The good thing is that I am updating the XJZ Survey Remover daily to counteract their patches.

Quoting a great supporter of the remover: it's like a "battle of attrition". Unfortunately for CPAlead though, the battle won't last too long as they will be running out of ideas.

In summary: as this is an ongoing battle, you may have to update your bookmarklet regularly.
If the XJZ Survey Remover stops working then just come back to the site and get the latest version. I know it's quite annoying but don't blame me, blame CPAlead - they're the ones attacking the remover!

XJZ Survey Remover Launched!

10/07/10
As on thelostsite.co.cc (now thelostsite.net) the survey remover was been used thousands of times a day, I thought it was about time for the tool to get its own name and site! The bookmarklet, previously known as the "full screen advert remover", has now got a new (and I hope good) name: the "XJZ Survey Remover".

All the information about the survey remover has been transferred across from thelostsite.co.cc and it has been updated and extended to make it both more useful but also easier to read. Even the old comments have been moved if you want to re-live the tool's turbulent development, holding tales of battles against CPAlead...

Much like when the survey remover was on thelostsite.co.cc, I encourage you to leave feedback and report any problems on the comments page.

The History of The Remover

Originally made for personal use, I was shocked by the reception the survey remover got when it was first released on the internet under The Lost Site's bookmarklets section. Thousands of people from around the globe began to check it out, making the bookmarklet the most popular page on the whole site!

Within weeks demand was so great and after a series of DDoS attacks, the site went down. However it managed to rise from the ashes as multiple servers were acquired but was soon met with further problems.

For weeks, the survey remover was attacked by CPAlead as they attempted to force people to fill in surveys to get money for themselves. Patch after patch was made to fix the counter-measures CPAlead employed but eventually CPAlead stuck a fatal blow to the bookmarklet using this script which attempted to run every millisecond:
if (typeof tls != "undefined")
{
tls.init = function () {};
tls = new Object;
window.location.reload();
}
(For anyone not fluent in Javascript, it basically reloaded the page as soon the bookmarklet was used to stop it working)

However, all was not lost. Within days I had come up with a fix which defeated CPAlead once and for all. Despite a desperate dying-breath attempt by CPAlead to stop the remover, which consisted of a nasty window event listener:
document.onmousemover = function(){
{
if (typeof tls != "undefined")
{
window.location.reload();
}
}
(Every time the mouse was moved, the page checked if the bookmarklet was been used)
This was easily squashed and the survey remover had won the battle once and for all!

Although the survey remover isn't perfect and it does have limitations (read more) it is been used thousands of times to save people time and money! No longer do you have to fill out surveys so other people benefit by getting paid from your hard work!
